What the 2019 Cardiff Half Marathon team achieved
Right, the final update on what the Cardiff Half marathon team achieved.
Just over £15,000 came in and it was spent on :-
A Christmas party in which 12 children with cancer met Santa
(Thank you to the real Santa for helping make it special and to Bob Armstrong of Dr Bob's balloons who entertained the children free of charge) Each child received gifts to the sum of £250. 31 other children received vouchers for £30 each (Thank you to ARGOS Barry for the discount provided). The catering for the party was provided by Cardiff City Council at a significantly reduced rate and the venue (Norwegian Church Cardiff Bay) was not only given free of charge but also decorated for Christmas (Massive thanks to Tony Caley-Burnell) and all the staff concerned.
Further donations of £500 each have been made to individual children from areas of the UK further afield (some of whom are extremely poorly)
Three hospital wards all received over £500 each These were: Rainbow Ward at UHW, This was prior to the pandemic and I wanted to thank the staff this time for their care of the children. It was particularly poignant for me because the two ladies I met when I took the items in, were actually two that remain from the
children's cancer unit back in 2004. These ladies actually cared for Jamie and the one on the left in picture was actually with me when Jamie passed away so it meant a lot that I could give these items as a thank you to her from Jamie's charity. (two laptops, coffee machine, kettle, toaster and a few hundred pounds worth of tea and coffee for their new staffroom)
Riverbank ward at Royal Worcester Hospital (funds raised by Steve Jones for his local Hospital) and currently the charity is processing a delivery to:-
Kettering General Hospital children's A&E dept (Funds raised by Jason Perkis for his local hospital)
In addition, given the current pandemic, the charity has branched away from helping just children in favour of purchasing some PPE for the local medical and care communities here in
S.Wales.
Five nursing homes in Barry, a care home in Sully and one in Blackwood all received visors and aprons. Also to receive these items were Cardiff and Vale Rescue Association, Healthy at Home Care agency in Cardiff and Age Cymru.
In addition two local Doctors surgeries, a school keyworker hub and eight local families also requested PPE. this was ordered, received and distributed in five days. (total cost £2400)
Thank you! also to Matt Ford and Laura Carey, to Lisa Evans, and to Huw Gibson of Orchard House Nursing home for their recent generous donations to the JAM Fund.
This has concluded the donations of the money raised by the team and I wanted to thank all of you for running and all of your sponsors for making this happen. I attach pics so you can show those who have supported you what was achieved by the team. thanks to all concerned and stay safe everyone.
p.s. also thanks to my wifey Denise Adamson for wrapping a SHED LOAD of Christmas pressies in addition to the usual family ones (I cant wrap cos Im a bloke)
