The end of an era for the Cardiff Half Marathon team
I am VERY grateful to all runners and sponsors in helping reach this ( ongoing) amount.
With regret, I have taken the decision after 20 years of having a team in the event, to now stop entering teams into the Cardiff Half Marathon.
The size and status, and associated costs to the charity, is making it an untenable event for a charity the size of the JAM Fund.
This is coupled with the decline in the use of cash, making collection pots outdated.
The JAM Fund does not have the financial or personnel resources to run a functioning direct debit or card reader based facility.
Each runner in this year's event cost the charity over £100 to enter.
This in turn, means I have to request more in sponsorship ( £250) to make it cost effective and I am uncomfortable asking people to do so continually.
From next year (Sunday May 17th) 2026, the BARRY Island 10k will now be the focus of the charity's fund raising efforts. The cost to the charity are less, but this event is also growing in size.
Barry, being Jamie's home town, is also a fitting location for us to raise funds.
I have purchased 30 places for the team and sponsorship request is £150 if you take a place provided ( covers entry cost/ provision of vest and hospitality post race) roughly 10 spaces have been pledged already.
Thank you all for the support given over the years in the Cardiff half marathon. It has involved over 15 nationalities, and ( I think) around £175k. Our biggest single year raising £28k on the day in 2007.
This enabled the provision of a brand new wheelchair adapted minibus to Martyn House children's hospice in Yorkshire, as a result .
Last year's event provided funds towards another adapted vehicle for a local family, helped repatriate a premature baby from abroad, helped a young mum newly diagnosed with cancer and was used to donate towards some specialist play equipment.
It was very humbling ( again) seeing so many of you running with my son's name on your back, and emotional for me, seeing his older brother doing so and posting a pb of 1:39.(Which hurt by the looks of it)
Thank you to my family for their support
I am also going to set up an annual event, "The Jamie Adamson Memorial Mile" ( JAM Mile) for children only to enter, with a £25 sponsorship request. I will post about this at a later date ( this will be personal mile- based actions involving children helping children)
Thank you all so much, apologies for the length of the post. I will update when funds are spent. Please pass my thanks to all sponsors
( AND TY from Jamie)
