Support for 16-month-old Jack from St Athan
JAM Fund Cardiff Half Marathon Team.
And Mount Pleasant Playgroup, Barry .
Today I was contacted asking for some help by a family friend of Amanda and Nick, parents of 16 month old Jack from Saint Athan. Jack has older siblings ( 2 brothers and a sister) who are a huge help to Mum and Dad and never complain.
Their story:-
A year before Jack arrived, his Dad had a stroke. Two months before Jack arrived, he had heart surgery.
At nine weeks old, Jack himself was rushed to intensive care following a seizure.
Jack was diagnosed with a very rare genetic disorder meaning he suffers drug resistant epilepsy, blindness and delayed development. This means it is unlikely he will ever be able to walk or talk and currently spends a vast amount of time laying on a sofa.
The request I had was however, for gifts for Jack's siblings, (some Christmas bicycles.)
This was because Mum and Dad realise (as I did) that they often have to go without the amount of attention their parents would like, because they are constantly nursing Jack.
Dad has gone back to work full time despite fatigue after his surgery, Mum has had to quit work to become carer 24/7.
The JAM Fund has been able to agree to buy the kids their Christmas bicycles ( and helmets) as a thank you to Jack's amazing brothers and sister.
In addition, the charity has today purchased a specialist Orthopedic chair ( A P-pod chair) to help Jack be supported as he grows and it's portable ( I was familiar as two others have been purchased previously) this cost £2350 and will be delivered to Jack before Christmas.
The funds were provided by the runners and sponsors of the Cardiff Half Marathon team and also the staff, parents and children of Mount Pleasant Playgroup in Barry and their recent "Welly walk" and " pool party"
THANKS TO YOU ALL on behalf of Jack, his family and the JAM Fund.
The differences you are continuing to make x
